Four people could be charged with criminal damage to Colston statue
Four people could be charged following the toppling of Colston’s statue from its plinth and subsequent dunking in the docks.
The police investigation into the criminal damage caused to the 125-year-old statue has now closed, with Avon & Somerset Constabulary now handing over the case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
It will be the CPS who make the decision whether to charge the four people – three men, aged 32, 25 and 21, and a 29-year-old woman.

The statue was adjudged to have suffered £3,750 worth of damage and will be going on display in a museum – likely to be the M Shed – with graffiti still on it and chucks missing.
Five other men aged 18, 20, 29, 33 and 47 have been offered a conditional caution for their part in the events on June 7 which made headlines across the world.
The conditions of the caution are:
- To complete a questionnaire from the History Commission set up by Bristol City Council, in which they can set out their reasons for their actions, as well as their concerns and thoughts going forward.
- To pay a fine of £100 which will be collected by the courts service and sent to Nilaari, a charity based on Stapleton Road that supports BAME communities.
- To take part in two hours of environmental improvement works – such as the removal of rubbish and graffiti – arranged and supervised by Bristol City Council.
