Fundraising appeal for Find DJ Derek campaign

By Louis Emanuel  Tuesday Aug 4, 2015

The Find DJ Derek campaign is appealing for donations to fund posters, T-shirts and search parties in a bid to trace the missing 73-year-old.

The campaign is holding a fundraising night of music on Thursday next to the pub where the DJ was last seen, with a crowdfunding page launched to prompt further donations.

Derek Morris was last seen on his way home from the Commercial Rooms pub in Corn Street on July 10.

Police have since refocused their searches on Yate after “credible” sightings at the bus station and in Thornbury and Cribbs Causeway on July 15 or 16.

Earlier this week, Derek’s niece Jennifer Griffiths set up a Find DJ Derek Facebook and Twitter page.

Now the campaign is appealing for funds to aid a comprehensive search for the missing reggae DJ from St Paul’s.

The campaign wants to pay for transport to get volunteer search parties to various locations to carry out searches for clues.

More T-shirts and posters will also be printed in a bid to raise awareness across the city and the rest of the country.

The campaign group will be holding a night of music with family, friends and fellow DJs at Pranj’s bar on Corn Street entitled: ‘Hope! Find DJ Derek’. Tickets will be a minimum of a £5 donation to the campaign.

Tickets can be purchased through a crowdfunding page, which is accepting any donations to the campaign.

An existing stencil of DJ Derek in Leonard Lane, just off Corn Street, has seen the words “have you seen this man?” appear next to it.
