Future Brunels welcome first graduates
A group of Bristol students celebrated five years of hard work onboard the SS Great Britain after becoming the city’s first set of Future Brunels.
Back in 2011, the ss Great Britain Trust picked 12 school children aged 11 to 12 from four partner schools across the city to partake in a number of educational activities combining science and engineering.

The graduates, now a lot older, were treated to a special banquet aboard the ship to commemorate their achievements, having gained an extensive knowledge of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and other prominent figures from the industrial revolution.
Chief executive of the ss Great Britain Trust Matthew Tanner MBE said: “We are incredibly proud of the Future Brunels and the work that they have done over the last five years.”
The programme, a runner-up in the Museums and Heritage award for ‘Best Educational Initiative’, supports the ss Great Britain Trust’s goal to get young people interested in maritime and industrial engineering and science.
