Gangs target cyclists on railway path

By Pamela Parkes  Tuesday Feb 3, 2015

Gangs of teenagers are targeting people using the Bristol and Bath Railway Path in Easton.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information after nine people have been either robbed or assaulted over the past two weeks on or near the cycle track.

All incidents have involved groups of up to 15 youths in their mid-teens or early 20s, who have stolen cash and mobile phones.

Three of the offences took place in one night on February 1 between 7.30pm and 7.50pm.  The other incidents took place between 10pm and 11.30pm over the previous week.

Detective Inspector Richard Ocone said police have “increased our patrols in the area” and are asking people “to call us immediately if you see large groups of young people acting in an anti-social way in the area”.

One 16-year-old boy and one 19-year-old man have been arrested and released on bail pending further investigation.
