Getting to know some of Bristol’s top creatives

By Bristol24/7  Friday Jan 5, 2018

A Bristol website that interviews some of the best creative people living and working in the city is hosting its first live event this month.

The Poach, founded by graphic designer Emma Luczyn, typically features long Q&A-style features designed to get the  interviewees’ personalities across as well as sharing their creative processes.

On Thursday, January 25, Emma will be interviewing Aardman creative director and star of CBBC’s Art Ninja, Ricky Martin, in front of a live audience.

The £5 price of tickets includes a drink for all of the audience as Emma hosts an informal night of conversation and questions that she hopes will mimic the laid-back, chatty nature of the other interviews on The Poach.

Emma runs The Poach as a sideline to her full-time job at Bristol design agency Prophecy Unlimited. “I think there’s an enthusiasm for the creative community that exists in Bristol but isn’t massively promoted,” she told Bristol24/7.

“I want to surface all the great creative talent in Bristol as there’s so many great people doing really cool things. It also feels like I’m putting something out into the world that is useful to people or can inspire people.

“If a student reads it and sees that female camera woman can do well in a very male-dominated industry, she might feel that career is more achievable to her, that sort of thing.”

Emma handpicks people across Bristol who she thinks might be interesting to talk to, who have interesting or quirky studio spaces or an interesting story or career path.

“I follow so many talented people on Instagram that it’s easy to see how people are progressing in their careers and how far they’ve come,” she adds.

“So I tend to target people that are on the verge of something great or have landed work with a big brand, so that I can shout about how the talent in Bristol are doing great things on a national or international scale.”
