Ghost sign revealed of former shop
A recently revealed ghost has brought back many fond memories for people who used to shop in ‘The Dinkie’.
The Dinkie was located at 245 North Street in Bedminster, in premises now occupied by Compuwave.
The handpainted sign features the words ‘confectionery & tobacco’ on either side of the shop’s name.

Several members of the Southville, Ashton & Bedminster Information Board on Facebook shared their memories of The Dinkie.
Jo Johnson wrote: “Loved The Dinkie. Smelt of Cherry pipe tobacco & sugary sweetness. I used to buy Sugar Mice there for Christmas & a quarter of loose Extra Strong Mints for my Mum.”
Tadhg Pearoid said: “Loved going into that little shop, the smell was fantastic and the owners were absolute gents.”
Simon Wiggs said: “Even in the 90’s it felt old fashioned, but I loved that. Liked the big jars of sugared almonds and chocolate brazils coz it really took me back to the 70’s. Maybe conserve it, and cover it back up to be re-discovered in 50 years time.”
Iain Ferguson added: “All the sweets and different flavoured tobaccos you could ever want. Oh and cards for birthdays.”
