Giant rainbow created in windows of City Hall

By Martin Booth  Friday Apr 24, 2020

Rainbows have become a familiar sight in windows around the world during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Crystal Stanley, the mum from Ipswich credited with bringing the trend to the UK, they are a sign of “positivity, hope and togetherness” during lockdown.

On Thursday evening, windows within City Hall on College Green were decorated with coloured pieces of paper to create Bristol’s biggest rainbow.

The rainbow was created by Bristol Design, a public sector specialist design agency which is a commercial arm of Bristol City Council.

The word, ‘thank you’, was spelled out in the top floor windows above the rainbow.

At 8pm on Thursday evening, Bristol’s mayor and lord mayor, Marvin Rees and Jos Clark, were joined by party leaders for the weekly ‘clap for carers’ on College Green.
