Grand refurb for historic city centre hotel

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Apr 6, 2017

The Rolling Stones were once turned away from the Grand Hotel on Broad Street because they were not properly attired to eat in the restaurant.

How times have changed, with the hotel now owned by Mercure having completed a major refurbishment which includes the addition of salvaged materials in the new restaurant and more than 500 pieces of art by local artists including bespoke commissioned installations by former Upfest official artist and Bristol24/7 artist of the month Gemma Compton.

The 155-room hotel’s new interior draws inspiration both from Bristol’s independent art scene and the building’s historic past to create what its designers calls “a classic yet contemporary finish”.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

“Throughout the impressive property, a warm, understated and subtle colour palette complements natural and salvaged materials to create a relaxed yet refined feel, with an industrial edge.”

Hotel guests can enjoy breakfast in the newly renovated Keepers restaurant and bar, with honey from two beehives onsite incorporated into a signature cocktail and food menu.

Mercure UK & Ireland managing director Thomas Dubaere said: “We’re excited for guests to experience the hotel, which brings this historic building up to date with design reflective of Bristol’s street art.

“This is also our first Keepers Kitchen & Bar to open outside of London and we can’t wait for people to try it whether you are staying with us a guest or coming as a customer for some great food and drinks.”
