Greta Thunberg to visit Bristol for climate protest

By Martin Booth  Saturday Feb 22, 2020

There is already a huge mural of Greta Thunberg on the side of the Tobacco Factory on North Street. And now the 17-year-old environmental activist is visiting Bristol in person to take part in a youth climate protest.

Greta will join protesters on College Green inspired by her own weekly ‘climate strike’ outside Sweden’s parliament which she began in 2018.

The protest organised by Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate is due to take place from 11am on Friday, February 28.

It is thought that Greta had originally planned to visit London as she did last April when she addressed Extinction Rebellion activists, but as the area planned for the protest was too small the organisers recommended Bristol instead.

In 2019, Bristol street artist Jody painted the mural of Greta on North Street which she briefly used as her Instagram profile picture.

Earlier this year, Bristol City Council declared an ecological emergency following becoming the first city in the UK to declare a climate emergency.
