Grosvenor Hotel finally set to be demolished
It is still standing, but not for much longer.
Marvin Rees has confirmed that approval has now been granted for the demolition of the Grosvenor Hotel.
Once one of Bristol’s grandest hotels, a serious fire broke out in the building in October 2022.
is needed now More than ever
Rees called it an “eyesore” even before the fire but this is not a sentiment that everyone agrees with.
Campaigners have previously claimed that as a former railway hotel, the Grosvenor is integral to the historic setting of Brunel’s Grade I listed station complex.
The ornate façade includes ornamental gargoyles and a huge carved head of the Roman god Bacchus.
Could it have been saved? Should it have been saved?
Those are rhetorical questions now as we will soon be saying goodbye to the Grosvenor.
