Hair and beauty salon to close
A hair and beauty salon is to close after ten years.
The owners of PJ Monahan on Filwood Broadway in Knowle West say they have decided to close their doors due to the cost of living crisis.
In a statement, sisters Latoya and Nikita Monahan said: “We survived the pandemic and that we are extremely proud of. But with rising costs, we refuse to put ourselves in a position where our prices have to increase dramatically.

“It’s sad that the hospitality industries have taken such a hit the last couple of years and unfortunately it will be the same with the cost of living crisis.”

As well as hairdressing, PJ Monahan offers services such as tanning and eyebrow treatments.
Latoya and Nikita opened the salon in 2012 along with their other sister, Kelly, who died from cancer nine years ago.
They added: “We found our strength to keep going even though we’ve always been one third short. We continued on because of her and we are so glad we did.
“We will always have a special place in our hearts for our little salon and the people we’ve grown so fond of over the last ten years.”

PJ Monahan is set to close at the end of October, but Latoya and Nikita will continue to offer treatments at home beyond that.
The closure of the salon comes at a struggling time for Filwood Broadway. The Matthew Tree Project, also based on the street, has paused its services, and Filwood Hope, an advice centre, has faced closure fears.
But the high street is due to receive a share of £4.7m in funding and could even be getting a £12m boost if a council bid to the government is successful.
