Harbourside ranked 8th coolest place to live in the UK
A new survey has named an area of Bristol among the coolest places in the UK – but they appear to be confused as to its location.
The harbourside is described by Naturecan as “a vibrant neighbourhood centred around the Bristol Feeder Canal and known for its quayside eateries”.
The Feeder Canal? Surely some mistake. Although to be fair, Motion, Propyard and the Cider Box are all nearby.

But St Philip’s Marsh isn’t the harbourside. And as we’re asking questions: what actually is the harbourside?
Well it depends if we’re talking about harbourside with a lowercase ‘h’ or ‘Harbourside with a capital letter.
The Harbourside is specifically the development by Crest Nicholson on the formerly derelict Canon’s Marsh, with building work beginning in 2005.
Today, the harbourside name has spread from this specific site to now encompass the entirety of the area boarding the Floating Harbour, and it is this that health and fitness supplement brand Naturecan appear to be referring to.

The 5,000 respondents in Naturecan’s survey decided on Polperro in Cornwall as the official coolest place in the UK this year, with Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk and Marlow in Buckinghamshire taking second and third place respectively.
Within Bristol, the harbourside beat the likes of Stokes Croft and Hotwells to the top spot.
The full poll results show that Montpelier was runner-up for the title of our city’s coolest location, followed by Cotham, Clifton and Southville.
Locations were graded according to the number of independent shops per head of population, the range of cultural events, how ‘Instagrammable’ the best features were, as well as their popularity as a location for films and TV shows, with Stan & Ollie mentioned as a movie filmed in the harbourside (look out for the Balmoral and M Shed in the trailer).
Naturecan’s chief executive Andy Duckworth said: “All the 50 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK is such a beautiful place, loved by filmmakers and tourists from all over the world.
“What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 50. It is a massive help for visitor numbers, too, if a popular film or TV show uses a town as a location.
“Hidden gems which are largely only visited by local tourists can find themselves being showcased throughout the world if they are pictured by the right influencer or featured in a movie.”
