Harry and Meghan presented with boxing gloves at Easton gym

By Bristol24/7  Friday Feb 1, 2019

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in Easton for the final part of their visit to Bristol on Friday.

Bristol mayor Marvin Rees, who last weekend hosted international boxing at City Hall, joined Meghan and Harry at Empire Fighting Chance on Lower Ashley Road, which aims to fight the impact of deprivation on young people’s lives through boxing.

The charity supports young people aged eight to 21 who are failing at school and in danger of drifting into a life of
unemployment or even crime, and helps them turn their lives around.

Empire Fighting Chance works with around 250 to 300 children per week and runs programmes which help instil discipline, self control, and respect, whilst building self-confidence, life skills, and improving both physical and mental health and fitness.

During their visit, Meghan and Harry met with young people using the boxing gym, spoke to coaches about the positive impact Empire Fighting Chance is having on young people in Bristol, and watched training sessions attended by primary and secondary school pupils.

As Meghan and Harry left the gym, they waved to the gathered crowd and Meghan rolled down her window to wave goodbye as they were driven away.
