‘Heartbreak’ as camping equipment stolen from children’s charity
A charity that teaches children and young people the skills of living in harmony with nature and human beings has become a victim of theft.
Woodcraft Folk describes itself as a “co-operative movement for children and young people”.
It runs six groups across the city for those aged between six and 21 where members learn about topics such as the environment and global conflict through craft, games, playing and debating.
is needed now More than ever
Now, £5,000 worth of camping equipment has been stolen from the organisation’s base on a farm near Backwell.
The charity camping trips are the “highlight of the year” for many children.

Thousands of pounds’ worth of camping items have been taken from Woodcraft Folk
“I’ve been a member of Woodcraft Folk for many years, as a child and now as a group leader,” said Bristol district group leader Jenny Thompson.
“In that time I have been to hundreds of camps, made lifelong friends and so many memories.
“There’s lots of hard work needed to organise a camp, we’re all volunteers fitting this in around our other commitments.
“It’s all worth it when you get there and see the children enjoying themselves, making friends and learning new skills.
“It was heartbreaking to hear of the break in and theft of so much of the equipment that is vital for us to run these events. “
Woodcraft Folk operates 300 volunteer-led groups for young people across England, Wales and Scotland and runs four residential centres as well as youth programmes.
The charity has launched a fundraiser to cover the costs of replacing the missing items which include tents, solar lighting, a shelter and garden tools which are used for bushcraft activities.
