Help keep Bristol’s night shelters running
A new fundraising campaign has been launched to help Bristol’s night shelters and people sleeping rough in the city.
Local homelessness charities St Mungo’s, The Julian Trust, Caring in Bristol and Crisis Centre Ministries have all grouped together to support the Safer off the Streets campaign, which aims to raise £100,000.
Money raised will go towards the general running of Bristol’s night shelters, including food, drink, laundry and volunteer expenses.
is needed now More than ever
Bristol currently has four night shelters, which together have a total of 70 emergency beds for the homeless. Although the shelters provide safety for many, spaces fill up quickly and there are still others who are left to sleep on the streets.
The latest figures from Safer off the Streets show that 97 people sleep rough each night in Bristol and to raise awareness of this issue, 97 supporters gathered outside the Watershed in their sleeping bags. It is hoped that this support will encourage others to dig deep and donate.

David Ingerslev, project manager at St Mungo’s and Rough Sleeping Partnership lead, said: “Bristol is a compassionate city and people often ask how they can make a difference. This one city approach means we are all working towards the same goal: to support the most vulnerable people off our streets and into accommodation.”
The charities are urging people to volunteer at the shelters and to contact www.streetlink.org.uk if they are concerned about someone sleeping rough.
Fundraising has now begun on the Safer off the Streets Fundsurfer page – you can donate here.
