Help save Bristol’s Chandos House

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Mar 20, 2018

The future of Chandos House, a residential treatment centre for addiction, is hanging in the balance in the wake of Government cuts.

In order to continue vital work saving the lives of men suffering from substance and alcohol abuse, the team has embarked on a critical fundraising mission and gained the support of big names, including writer and comic Will Self and street artist Inkie.

An evening at Boston Tea Party on Park Street will highlight the cause of Bristol’s last remaining residential rehab service which offers men the opportunity for transformation, from the ravages of trauma and addiction into leading healthy, full, connected lives.

Guests will be joined by Self, who will be reading from, and discussing his writings, related to the subject of addiction and recovery. There will also be the chance to get your hands on a signed copy of his most recent book in return for a donation.

Work by Inkie will be available in the auction

“How we treat our most vulnerable members of society is a reflection on ourselves,” says Kate Guscott, an art therapist at Chandos House.

“Men who are left homeless, demonised, incarcerated and destitute only have drugs and alcohol to turn to.

“By helping these individuals, we help ourselves. No man is an island. Let’s come together and support people at their most needy moment, and in turn transform their lives, our communities and the very fabric of our society.”

The holistic rehab services at Chandos House give men the chance to turn their lives around

Two former Chandos House residents will share their own stories and the impact that the rehabilitation process has had on their lives.

This will be followed by an auction, featuring signed artwork from Bristol artists Nick Park, Inkie and Alex Lucas, as well as signed books from Stephen Fry, Grayson Perry and Eric Clapton and some luxury goods.

The event takes place on Wednesday, March 28 from 6.30pm – 9.30pm.

All ticket sales and funds raised will go to Chandos House and refreshments and nibbles will be provided by Boston Tea Party. Tickets by donation from £10 – £500.
