By Bristol24/7  Friday Apr 22, 2016

The bride-to-be who found a life-saving bone marrow donor for her groom has launched a new campaign after his cancer returned.

Kate Robertson, 33, from Westbury-on-Trym, is on a mission to save the life of her now-husband Mike Brandon, 31, for the second time in just two years by fundraising to send him to the USA for treatment

Physiotherapist Kate had only 60 days to find a stem cell match for Mike after he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014.

She succeeded in saving his life after a nationwide campaign encouraged more than 7,000 people to put themselves forward as donors.

The couple got married last year but now Mike’s cancer had aggressively returned, with Kate dedicated to raising £400,000 to send him to the US for revolutionary leukemia treatment.

More than £137,000 had already been raised via the fundraising page on Thursday morning.

Kate Robertson and Mike Brandon got married last year. Now Kate needs to raise £400,000 to save his life.

“I am fighting to save the life of my beloved husband for the second time in two years,” Kate said.

“The day before Easter Friday we were given the devastating news that Mike’s leukaemia had returned and was spreading at an aggressive rate.

“Having exhausted all of the options available to us in the UK we were informed of a revolutionary new treatment that has shown extraordinary rates of success for people in Mike’s position.

“After huge efforts to find a trial of this treatment (CAR T-Cell Therapy) we have now started discussions with researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Centre, USA where he is thought to be a suitable candidate.

“Whilst the actual treatment is funded by the University, the medical costs associated with its administration must be self funded.

“We need to raise at least £400,000 to save his life.”
