High winds batter Bristol as Storm Eunice hits
Bus and waste collections services have been suspended and many schools are closed as a rare red weather warning remains in place for the Bristol region.
Early blue skies soon gave way to dark clouds as Storm Eunice swept over the city, bringing with it gale-force winds that the Met Office says could pose a danger to life as people are advised to stay indoors if possible and avoid unnecessary travel.
A major incident was declared as Bristol prepared to batten down the hatches, with libraries, universities, vaccination centres, some businesses and many schools and tourist attractions all closing on Friday.

There is an amber warning in place for most of Bristol, meaning significant disruption is expected, with flying debris due to high winds potentially posing a danger to life and warnings of power cuts, falling branches and closures.
Coastal areas along the Severn Estuary are covered by a red warning from the Met Office. The Environment Agency has also issued a flood warning for the Severn Estuary, with large and powerful waves crashing along the shoreline.
Bristol Waste has confirmed all waste and recycling collections are postponed, which will have a knock-on effect into next week.
For what is believed to be the first time due to wind speeds, both the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and M48 Severn Bridge are closed to all traffic and people are asked not to travel to the area.
