Home for sale with built-in pipe organ

By Martin Booth  Thursday Mar 4, 2021

“Charismatic and eccentric” is certainly one way to describe a home for sale in Bristol that comes with an inbuilt pipe organ taking up much of one floor.

The four-bedroom house has been owned by the same family for three generations and is now for sale for £500,000.

Bristol24/7 understands that the house most recently belonged to a former church organist who who died last year just before her 99th birthday.

Her husband built her the organ at their home on Cliftonwood Crescent in Cliftonwood so that she could practise at home.

She made sure not too play too loudly or late at night so as not to disturb her neighbours.

Just a normal house in Cliftonwood, right?

Wrong! And this wood-panelling is not even half of the story

The pipe organ can be found at the top of the stairs

Its pipes extend elsewhere in the upper reaches of the house…

…and can even be glimpsed in some of the other rooms

“It would be sensible to say that the new owner is likely to re-furbish the home in order to create a wonderful property to their exacting needs,” say Clifton estate agents Allen & Harris.

“The charismatic and eccentric property has been owner occupied and adored for decades as can be seen by some of its quirks.

“Such points of interest include the full organ with podium on the top level that may have played its last tune!?

“The removal of this would certainly create more usable space on the top floor and a space to complement the bedroom that currently faces the garden.”
