Homes evacuated in Stapleton armed stand-off
Police stormed the home of a man they believe to be armed after a long stand-off on a residential street in Stapleton.
The force, which had been locked in negotiations since 5.30pm on Thursday, said the man, who they believed to be alone, had made threats to kill.
Part of Park Road was cordoned off and some residents evacuated from their homes on Thursday evening as armed police were called to the scene.
is needed now More than ever
Police said a man refused to leave the property so officers, some armed and with riot gear and gas masks, were sent in at about 11.45am on Friday to “bring the incident to a safe conclusion”.
Negotiations were still ongoing on Friday evening, however, with Park Road remaining closed.

“This is an isolated incident and we’re liaising very closely with our colleagues in the mental health crisis team, as well as other emergency services who are at the scene,” superintendent Will White said.
“We don’t believe there is a risk to the wider public but we have information to suggest there may be weapons within the property, although these are not believed to be firearms or any explosive materials.
“Because of this information, armed officers have been deployed to the scene as a precaution.”

Residents living in two other flats within the same building were evacuated from their homes as police moved in.
Earlier on Friday morning, police said: “This incident is ongoing and we’ve deployed a number of resources, including trained negotiators, to the scene.
“We’re liaising regularly with a number of our partner agencies, including the mental health crisis team and the fire and rescue service, to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.”
“Although we don’t believe there is a risk to the wider public, a small number of residents living nearby have been evacuated as a precaution and the street is currently cordoned off.”
