Huge expansion plans for Cribbs Causeway
Plans for a major expansion project at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway have gone on show.
The owners, M&G Real Estate, want to create new shops, leisure facilities and restaurants. The scheme will see the size of the existing shopping complex increase by nearly half again. It will also include a new square for concerts and outdoor events. A new anchor store is also planned for the development.
A company spokesman said: “Retailing has changed significantly in recent years and we want to invest to enable the centre to develop.”
is needed now More than ever
The multi-million pound scheme could create nearly 4000 new jobs.
The plans outline major improvements to public transport facilities, including a new bus station connected to the extended Metrobus link and a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge.
Philip Vaughan, of M&G Real Estate, said the plans show “an exciting vision for the future of their area”.
If the plans get the go ahead the developers say work on site would begin approximately 18 months after approval.
The shopping centre opened in 1998 and attracts some 12 million visitors every year.
The whole area is the focus of ambitious redevelopment plans. Around 8000 new homes are planned on the site of the former Filton airfield, a new Bristol Aero museum to house Concorde is in the pipeline and Bristol Zoo’s WildPlace is continuing to develop.
