Hundreds attend anti-Trump rally in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Jun 4, 2019

On the day before Donald Trump was due to meet the Duke of York, a few hundred protesters marched right up to the top of Park Street and then marched down again.

The protesters were led by musicians and a banner reading ‘Trumpets against Trump’ on the front and ‘Blast fascism’ on the back.

The demonstration started and finished on the centre, with speeches taking place near the cascade steps before trumpeters provided the soundtrack to the march.

Many of the marchers will be travelling to London on Tuesday for a larger protest against the US President’s State Visit to the UK.

Following the business breakfast hosted by the Duke of York at St James’s Palace, Trump will visit Downing Street for talks. In the evening, the Trumps will host a dinner at the residence of the US ambassador.

The trip will culminate on the third day, with Trump, the Queen and Prince Charles attending a commemorative event in Portsmouth to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
