Following the ceremony, supporters created a chain of unity around College Green.
Bristol’s mayor, Marvin Rees, tweeted about the ceremony, saying: “Bristol is a proud City of Sanctuary, welcoming people fleeing war – since Putin’s invasion, we have welcomed around 800 Ukrainians through Homes for Ukraine”
Bristol City Council also tweeted about the gathering, saying our city will continue to “show our support for Ukraine”.
They are calling for people to continue offering temporary accommodation to Ukrainians, directing people to contact the council’s Homes for Ukraine team for more detail.
