Hundreds march in Bristol against Syria bombing

By Thomas Katan  Tuesday Apr 17, 2018

Led by two giant grim reapers on stilts, hundreds of people took to the streets of Bristol on Monday evening to protest against the recent bombing raids on Syria carried out by the UK, USA and France.

“You should be protesting every day,” Syrian national Obada Alia told the crowd in the centre before the start of the march.

“Assad is a monster. Where have you been?

“No government cares about Syria. Everyone here should pray for Syria. No one likes violence. We all want peace.”

The march then set off up Nelson Street and Union Street towards Broadmead and Cabot Circus.

The demonstrators, which included lots of families with children, were peaceful as they made their way carrying many handwritten banners.

“One, two, three, four, we don’t want your fucking war!” some shouted in unison.

The march had been organised by Bristol Stop the War Coalition, with another march taking place on Monday in Exeter.

“Trump and May have got to go” was chanted with particular gusto as the marchers brought much of the city centre to a halt.

Others simply shouted: “Don’t bomb Syria!”
