For the first time in three years, people from different communities gathered on St Mark’s Road for the Grand Iftar.
The scaled-back celebration on Tuesday evening saw residents of all ages and backgrounds come together in Easton to break the fast and share a free feast together during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Tributes were paid to much-loved community activist Hanna Ahmed, who had been the “backbone of the Grand Iftar” before her death.

Moestak Hussein, one of the organisers of the event, described it as an “amazing day” to see so many people from different communities together at the Grand Iftar.
She said: “It’s just a really amazing moment to see so many people come together in such good spirit, in a cohesive way, break bread together and celebrate together and enjoy the nice food and get to celebrate with many Muslim people what it’s like to eat Iftar and break the fast.”
