Teaching jobs cut at City of Bristol College
Around 90 full-time teaching posts are likely to go at City of Bristol College because of “financial pressures” following cuts to funding.
The college has confirmed that it is to begin consulting with staff in December, but a spokesperson said they are hoping to avoid compulsory redundancies: “We will achieve this through natural loss, voluntary redundancy, removing non-essential vacant posts and redeploying staff where possible.”
Around 30,000 students study at City of Bristol college at nine campuses across Bristol. In a statement the college said: “Students will not be affected negatively as a result of this process. The consultation looks at roles which have surplus teaching hours. The college will not be removing teaching staff from current timetabled lessons.
is needed now More than ever
The college employs 465 staff and the spokesperson said: “As a result of the consultation exercise we anticipate that at most we will reduce around 90 full time equivalent posts (not necessarily 90 members of staff).”
