Kerry McCarthy attacks Corbyn’s leadership
Bristol East MP Kerry McCarthy has further criticised Jeremy Corbyn, claiming the Labour leader showed no signs of “any sense of strategic direction or leadership” during her time as shadow environment secretary.
McCarthy, who resigned from her post to vote no confidence in her leader, said Corbyn’s office was “clearly under-staffed and in a bit of muddle” while she was in her post, leading to her advice on environmental policy being ignored.
Writing in the Huffington Post, she also said she thought the Labour leader left the electorate “baffled” over his position on the EU referendum and he had a “lack of grasp” of Article 50 to leave the union.
is needed now More than ever
McCarthy, who joined Owen Smith as he launched his leadership challenge in Bristol this week, said she joined a string of other MPs to quit the frontbench after her “exasperation” turned into “despair” over where the party was headed.
Her latest comments come after an email to members criticising Corbyn’s “lack of leadership” and “half-hearted support” for the official Labour Remain campaign.
