Kickstarter hand drawn book campaign
Artist Tim Lane has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help fund the production and publishing of his new illustrated short story book Silent Quarter.
Lane crowdfunded his previous book Anima Mundi, which is now held by collections around the world including at The British Library in London.
The Bristol-based illustrator has raised nearly £9,000 of his £10,000 target to fund the new book.

The story of Silent Quarter takes the reader on a journey through the mind of an old man; exploring concepts of the intense personal experience of loss, the endurance of love and the importance of memory.
“The idea is not a fixed narrative but instead something that is open and flexible to the reader,” said Lane, and he says the inspiration for the book’s layout is loosely based around the concept of a vinyl record.
“The short written passages that fit together in a loose narrative arch are like the lyrics, then the ‘music’ is provided by the illustrations that literally open-up on fold-out pages – lending mood, symbolism and providing time for reflection.”
Lane has spent two years working on the book in collaboration with a number of Bristol-based creatives, including designer Jono Lewarne from City Edition Studio, curator at Royal West of England Academy Gemma Brace, who has edited the text, and film maker, Helena Garcia.
“The idea of collaboration has always been central to this project”, continues Lane, “and it has been a real group effort to see the work come to life.”
The crowd funding campaign ends on June 9.
