‘Kill the Bill prisoner solidarity demonstration’ to take place in Bristol
People will be taking to the streets of Bristol in solidarity with those who have been sentenced over the Kill the Bill protests last year.
The demonstration is due start at 2pm on Saturday, when protesters will gather at St Peter’s Church in Castle Park before marching through the city.
Bristol Defendant Solidarity called out for people to “come and support Kill the Bill protesters, defendants and prisoners – in the face of political and judicial repression”.
is needed now More than ever
The protests in March 2021 were against the controversial Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which curtails the right to protest, among other things.
A number of people have been jailed in the wake of events on March 21, when scenes of violence outside Bridewell Police Station made headlines around the world.
Bristol ABC organised a Kill the Bill prisoner support fund that has already raised more than £30,000. Currently, the fund is aiming to support prisoners and provide them with essentials for up to two years.
Avon and Somerset Police advised the public about the disruption in city centre and said their priority will be to facilitate peaceful protests.
