‘Kill the bill’ protesters block roads but prevented from reaching M32

By Martin Booth  Saturday Apr 10, 2021

A line of police officers near Cabot Circus car park, with several police dogs sat down behind them, twice blocked protesters from reaching the M32 on Friday evening.

A ‘kill the bill’ march saw around 100 people gather in Castle Park before walking towards the motorway and back again, around the city centre, briefly stopping on the Bearpit roundabout and Old Market Street, before returning to the Centre.

Around 50 protesters sat down on the junction of Baldwin Street and St Augustine’s Parade, but after traffic was diverted onto other roads, they decided to go home at around 9.15pm.

Police officers on foot and on bicycles accompanied the march, which attracted plenty of honks of support from passing cars.

Bristol24/7 saw one protester arrested on Lewins Mead and put into a police van.
