Knitted creation in memory of the Queen
A “yarn bomber” in Bristol has struck again with a creation to commemorate the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
Judy McIntosh and husband Alan snuck out on a recent evening to put the topper on the postbox at Sea Mills Post Office on Shirehampton Road.
She felt moved by the amount of people who had queued to see Her Majesty lying in state and felt she had to mark the moment in history.

Judy said: “She’s the only queen I’ve ever known, she’s always been there. The whole world has got together and you really feel you have to do something.”
The day of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation is one of Judy’s first memories. “I vaguely remember the street party, I was just three at the time,” she added.
And she’s even seen the Queen herself: “I was on the centre [of Bristol] when she visited for the Silver Jubilee. It was surreal, she was waving out to everyone.”

Judy’s creations began when she received a knitting kit for Christmas from her auntie when she was about five.
She’s been creating things from wool ever since, including a prize-winning piece for this year’s Sea Mills Flower and Craft Show.
The postbox toppers usually take months to make, so like many other yarn bombers Judy has re-used some of the elements she made for the Jubilee in June.
She also has plans for future toppers, but she’s-tight lipped about exactly what they will be.
The coronation of Charles III will surely not go unmarked though, and she has something secret up her – no doubt beautifully knitted – sleeve for later this year.
