Knowle West youth charity shortlisted for national award
A Knowle West-based youth charity that supported 800 young people last year has been shortlisted for a national award for its work through the Covid-19 crisis.
Youth Moves is one of five finalists from across the country for the Inspiring Youth Organisation Award, part of the inaugural UK Youth Inspiring Hope Awards.
The new awards ceremony will “celebrate the stories of young people, leaders and groups who work hard to improve the lives of others”, taking place virtually on Wednesday, March 3.

Ali Dale, CEO for Youth Moves, says the charity is very proud to be shortlisted for the award.
“This is testimony to the staff that have worked tirelessly with outstanding commitment and passion for young people and the community during a difficult year for all,” he says.
“We haven’t always been the best at shouting about what we do, and quietly go about our work, so to be seen on the national stage feels strange but is great.
“We see ourselves as an authentic organisation grounded in the communities we serve, with staff that have real relationships, and we will remain so.”

Youth Moves has three youth clubs which would usually take place at The Park Centre but have been taking place on Zoom due to Covid-19.
The charity has also been doing one-on-one youth work and small group work through the pandemic. This includes at its allotment space, where young people have been growing food, getting involved in outdoor activities and enjoying nature.

“To get to the final five of a national award for inspiring hope in this climate is truly an honour,” adds Denise Clifford, head of youth work delivery for Youth Moves.
“There are so many organisations across the UK who have worked tirelessly for young people during this pandemic, so we are so proud to get through to this stage.
“Our team have gone so far above and beyond any expectations and it is the whole of the Youth Moves team who deserve this recognition.”
The UK Youth Inspiring Hope Awards will be streamed online from 6.30pm to 7.45pm on Wednesday, March 3. You can get a ticket to the virtual awards ceremony here: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/uk-youth-inspiring-hope-awards-2021-tickets-137764353891
