Labour announce Kerry Barker as PCC candidate

By Louis Emanuel  Thursday Feb 18, 2016

Criminal barrister Kerry Barker has been selected by Labour to stand for police and crime commissioner of Avon and Somerset.

Barker was chosen by local party members ahead of Easton councillor Afzal Shah and Ronald Laden, a retired army colonel and current chairman of Bath Labour Party.

“My first priority is to speak to as many residents as possible about what they feel they need from their PCC,” Barker said.

“For too long people in Avon and Somerset have not had their voices heard on matters of police and crime and I intend to make that right.”

The elections take place on May 5, at the same time Bristol goes to the polls to elect its mayor and all its councillors.

Barker faces incumbent Sue Mountstevens, who has promised to stand again on the platform of keeping political parties out of the post.

Bristol Conservative Party leader on the council Mark Weston is standing for the Tories.
