Labour win clean sweep of Bristol seats
Bristol has turned red with the Labour Party securing a clean sweep of Bristol’s four parliamentary seats.
In Bristol North West, Darren Jones sensationally ousted the Tory incumbent Charlotte Leslie, while elsewhere across the city, Kerry McCarthy, Thangam Debbonaire and Karin Smyth all retained their seats with increased majorities.
Labour’s Bristol mayor Marvin Rees was at City Academy in Lawrence Hill to share in the victory celebrations for Jones and McCarthy, posing for selfies with Labour supporters.

Labour celebrate winning all four seats in Bristol
Jones said “it’s great news for Bristol” that the city now has four Labour MPs as well as a Labour mayor.
He said: “We’ll be able to work as a really strong team and have more power in Westminster and City Hall, to all work towards a city we can be proud of.”
Rees called the evening “amazing” for Labour. He said: “Bristol East was a target seat for the Tories so it’s incredible Kerry not only won it but quadrupled her majority. She is an outstanding MP and I think she has been elected on that basis.”
On the citywide Labour clean sweep, he said: “People need some hope in their politics and I do not think the Tories offer much of that.
“I need a Government that will invest in our city. I will have a set of MPs around me who will help the city thrive.”
