Lake in Bristol park fenced off for major restoration work
Visitors to St George Park will have to view wildlife on the lake from a distance for the next six months while restoration work takes place.
Metal fencing has been erected to block public access to the water’s edge and surrounding pathways ready for the launch of a £400,000 project to improve the area.
This will see the introduction of a new boardwalk on the Victorian lake so children can watch wildlife and take samples of water to learn about nature and conservation. There are also plans to create a natural amphitheatre for outdoor performances.

Part of the work will involve removing and rebuilding the existing lake edge wall in stages and repairs to the footpath. Silt from the lake will be used to make new wetland areas for wildfowl, frogs and newts and insects.
Bristol City Council says the area around the lake will be closed for the duration of the work, which is due to begin on Monday and take six months. Temporary walkways have been put in place where the fencing blocks off the path.
The council has apologised for any inconvenience to park users while the work is ongoing.
