Last chance to cross Vauxhall Bridge before it closes until 2025
Vauxhall Bridge is due to close on Monday for up to two years as it becomes the latest span in Bristol to receive urgent repairs.
Repairs to the bridge connecting Southville to Spike Island – which used to swing until 1935 – are estimated to cost £3m.
It’s part of a £16m investment by Bristol City Council to safeguard the future of six bridges that cross the New Cut.

At around 82 metres in length, the Grade II listed Vauxhall Bridge, built around 1900, is more than 20 metres longer than Gaol Ferry Bridge.
The other bridges over the New Cut set to be repaired over the next five years are Sparke Evans Park Bridge, Langton Street Bridge (better known as the Banana Bridge), Bedminster Bridge and Bath Bridge.
