Latest plans for student accommodation blocks on Bedminster site unveiled
New proposals for 432 student homes on a disused site along Malago Road have been revealed.
The plans being put forward by Watkin Jones PLC represent the final scheme for the the Bedminster Green land that has long been earmarked for major redevelopment.
They could see three separate blocks ranging from four storeys up to ten-storeys high built on the former Pring and St Hill engineering works site, alongside a new public park, outdoor courtyard space and rooftop gardens.

The proposals are for a car-free development, with the exception of three disabled spaces and EV charging points. Despite accommodating 432 students, there will only be cycle storage available for 116 bikes.

Previous developers have tried and failed to get planning permission for proposed schemes on the plot but Watkin Jones claim they have a “shovel ready” proposal that has taken into account previous concerns of residents and councillors.
The company has also taken over ownership of the NCP Car Park site in the Bedminster Green area, which is also set to be turned into student flats.
The developer is hosting an in-person consultation on Monday at Bedminster Methodist Church from 3pm to 7pm and people can also submit feedback online.
Tony Garner, development director for Watkin Jones, said: “This is an opportunity to transform a disused brownfield site to support lowering student demand for local housing, as well as boost the wider investment in Bedminster.
“We have really listened to, and acted on, what people said during previous consultation exercises and public meetings. This is why we’re proposing a much smaller scheme with a look and feel that will match the wider Bedminster Green regeneration site. This is a new beginning for the site, and we will keep listening, which is why we want to hear people’s views before submitting a planning application.”

The proposals incorporate three blocks, with block A – to the western end of the site – standing between four and six-storeys, rising to five to eight storeys in block B and seven to ten for block C.
The developer is promising to open up access to the River Malago for the local community and create new public spaces.
