Light the Night returns to Bristol

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Oct 14, 2021

Get ready for this year’s Light the Night event that will be coming to two different locations in Bristol.

In a special evening allowing people to remember their loved ones, everyone is invited to light one of hundreds of candles at Birdcage Walk in Clifton on November 6 and St Paul’s Church in Southville on November 13.

The event, which first took place in 2019 in the churchyard of St Paul’s Church, reflects traditions of All Souls Day and the Day of the Dead which are both celebrated across the world.

“This is an inclusive way for people to take a moment to honour their loved ones,” said George Grace, founder of Light the Night.

“Each person is given a candle to light in memory or celebration, and from early evening the chosen spaces are filled with individual candles which collectivity make a breathtaking sight.”

“Because of the Covid-19 pandemic people may have lost loved ones and families have been kept apart by social distancing and travel restrictions, so it seems more important than ever to cherish those closest to us.”

This year, the event will be raising money for Cruse, a charity that supports people who are going through bereavement.

Join this year’s event that will be held between 4pm – 8pm at Birdcage Walk in Clifton on November 6 and St. Paul’s Church in Southville on November 13.
