Litter pickers to save Bristol
Volunteer litter pickers from the Campaign to Protect Rural England are determined to keep Bristol clean.
Launching their new campaign at Bristol Zoo, they were armed with brand new gear funded by Bristol’s Green Capital funds and the Quartet Community Foundation including shiny hi-vis vests and intimidating claws.
Sophie Spencer, community litter warden scheme coordinator, said: “For many people, litter is the most important issue on the local environmental agenda, and rightly so. Figures show that it is a widespread problem.
is needed now More than ever
“Litter has a destructive impact on the beauty and quality of our countryside and urban areas. Litter spoils the view, pollutes and land and endangers wildlife.”
New volunteers commit a minimum of one year to the scheme and will be picking every week individually or carrying out monthly community picks in larger groups across Bristol.
If you want to take action against litter, then one of the best ways is to join a litter picking group by registering on www.LitterActionUK.org.uk
