‘Engagement Plane’ visits Hengrove Playpark
Hengrove and Whitchurch Park Neighbourhood Planning Forum have built an ‘engagement plane’, a hand-crafted model of a plane, to engage with local residents.
The voluntary group of locals formed their committee in response to Bristol City Council’s South Bristol housing plan: the large-scale development of the area which was formally an RAF airfield, and would see 2,000 new homes built on sites including Hengrove Park. They are now trying to get feedback about the plans from as many locals as possible, young and old.

The plane has been built as a means for the forum to spread awareness of their own neighbourhood and housing plan, which they have devised with the help of local residents in consultation. They propose a park-led plan that would keep a ‘quality’ park and recreation area in Hengrove.
is needed now More than ever
The plane’s first stop was Hengrove Playpark, where it entertained the younger generations and provided a fun and practical way of learning about change, by writing chalk messages on the fuselage. Locals were encouraged to come and ask questions and have their voice heard concerning the forthcoming plans.

The plane will be touring around Hengrove for the next two months, giving local residents a chance to meet with different group members, discuss plans, and share ideas.
