Local organisation recognised with Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

By Lowie Trevena  Tuesday Jun 2, 2020

The annual Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest accolade available for voluntary groups in the UK, and one Bristol organisation has received the award this year.

Young Bristol is one of 230 charities to have won the award in 2020.

Providing community-based youth services for young people aged between eight and 24, volunteers are central to the charity’s work, supporting young people during non-school hours, offering opportunities, accredited learning and exciting experiences.

Founded in 1928, Young Bristol has grown to become a leading youth charity in the city, helping young people throughout the city to thrive and achieve.

“On behalf of everyone connected with Young Bristol, including the many volunteers who support our work in so many ways, we are deeply honoured to receive this prestigious award,” says CEO Lee Williams.

“Our army of volunteers make a profound and lasting impact on the lives of the children and young people we work with, supporting, inspiring and empowering them to succeed.”

As well as working with young people directly, volunteers at the charity also sit on the Fundraising Committee and Trustee Board, work with corporate partners and fundraise.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service recognises the work of voluntary groups who benefit their local communities and was created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

Even though the charity hasn’t been able to hold a celebration due to the pandemic, Young Bristol hopes to accept the award and hold festivities in autumn.
