Lofty proposal on M Shed crane

By Sam Gregory-Manning  Tuesday Feb 2, 2016

Lifted high above the Floating Harbour by one of the cranes outside the M Shed, Benedict Coulthard went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend Natasha Hood.

Benedict, a 35-year-old architectural technician, had wanted to propose by the harbourside and found inspiration when investigating the M Shed’s website.

“I knew they used the cranes for weddings but I hadn’t seen anything about proposals,” Benedict told Bristol24/7. “We had one of our first dates there so I knew I wanted to do it around there.

“She wasn’t expecting it at all, she was very surprised.”

27-year-old Natasha, who works at Bath Building Society, said yes and the unique proposal was sealed with a kiss.

Benedict and Natasha – she said yes

The couple, who are from Bath, are planning to wed in the spring of 2017.

As part of the M Shed’s working exhibits, the cranes are a landmark on Bristol’s docks and a link to the city’s industrial past. The largest of the M Shed’s exhibits, crane ride experiences can be booked online or on board on the day.
