Make Sunday Special to return this summer
Make Sunday Special will be returning to Bristol this summer, with events and activities across the city inspired by schemes in Bordeaux and Bogota where streets were opened for the citizens to enjoy with traffic free zones.
There will be a series of markets in the Old City to celebrate Bristol’s heritage and spirit and three events on the first Sunday of June, July and September.
Local groups will be able to run their own events across the city by applying for a maximum of £3,000. The aim is to have one event per neighbourhood. In addition, this year the schedules will extend beyond the summer so people are able to plan Christmas fairs or winter activities.
Bristol mayor George Ferguson launched the Make Sunday Special scheme in 2013 as a way of opening streets to people.
He said: “It’s great that we are able to open this funding for community organisers to get involved and create their own special events as part of the Make Sunday Special programme.”
