Man arrested on suspicion of murder after body found in Lawrence Weston flat

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at the scene of a flat fire in Lawrence Weston.

Police say a post-mortem revealed the victim, believed to be in his 40s, died from multiple blows to the head.

The emergency services were called to reports of a blaze at the property in Oakhanger Drive at around 11.40pm on Friday (September 29), where the body was found.

Police confirmed a murder investigation has been launched.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.”

A cordon placed in the area was lifted on Saturday night and police patrols have been stepped up throughout the neighbourhood to provide some reassurance to residents.

Police enquiries continue and anyone with information that might assist with the investigation is asked to call 101 and quote the reference 5217223044.
