Man due in court over Bishopston assault

By Louis Emanuel  Thursday Oct 22, 2015

A 21-year old man from Brislington is due in court this morning over the death of man who sustained serious head injuries in an alleged assault on Gloucester Road.

Ryan Lovegrove is charged with manslaughter over an incident outside the Sainsbury’s on the junction with Zetland Road in the early hours of Saturday October 10 when Lee Willingham was left fighting for his life in hospital.

Willingham was pronounced dead on Tuesday, 10 days after the alleged attack. Officers had already arrested Lovegrove for grievous bodily harm, but he was rearrested on suspicion of manslaughter yesterday.

Avon and Somerset Police said the Major Crime Investigation Team is now investigating the circumstances of Lee’s death.

A spokesperson added: “During the course of our investigation we’ve identified several people who were in the area of the incident between 1am and 2am on Saturday 10 October, who we’ve not yet spoken to.

“If you can help or have any further information, please call the Major Crime Investigation Team via 101 and quote reference number 5215015685.”
