Manos told to remove hand-painted lettering

By Martin Booth  Sunday Feb 15, 2015

A new bar on the Triangle have been informed by Bristol City Council that they have to remove the hand painted lettering and mural on the side of their building in accordance with rules relating to the conservation area of Park Street and Brandon Hill.

The letter to Manos says that “any retrospective permission will most likely be refused”.

But the owners of the bar argue that there are other murals in the surrounding area that have been allowed to remain, such as on Illusions, Rocotillo’s and Shark Bite.

Manos’ James Smailes said: “If this is the case, then we believe all other graffiti and murals in the local area must be subject to the same rules. What is the Bristol City Council policy on this? It appears extremely inconsistent and unfair.”

An e-petition on the council website had gained more than 300 signatures by Sunday evening.
