Marvin Rees named as one of UK’s most influential Black people
Marvin Rees has been named as the fourth most influential Black person in the UK in a prestigious annual list.
The Powerlist 2024 names Edward Enninful, editor-in-chief of British Vogue, as Britain’s most influential Black person.
Dean Forbes, the CEO of Forterro; Afua Kyei, chief financial officer at the Bank of England; and Tunde Olanrewaju, managing partner at McKinsey & Company make up the rest of the top-five.

Newcomers on the list, in partnership with JP Morgan, include comedian and television personality Mo Gilligan; the new Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa; and entrepreneur and digital content creator, Patricia Bright.
Other well-known names include Dragon’s Den star and podcaster Steven Bartlett; artist Sir Frank Bowling; and King Charles’ director of community engagement, Eva Omaghomi.
The ‘Powerlistees’ will be celebrated on Friday at the Powerlist Celebration of Black Excellence Awards hosted by businessman Tim Campbell at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Michael Eboda, CEO of Powerful Media, publisher of the Powerlist, said: “As we celebrate the Powerlist’s 18th edition, I am so proud of its legacy of celebrating remarkable and inspirational Black people in Britain.
“We were doing it before diversity was a trend, and even now data shows that trend is sadly reversing, our commitment to recognising and celebrating the achievements of these incredible role models remains as strong as ever.”
Judging criteria was based on the Powerlist’s definition of influence: “The ability to positively alter events and change lives as demonstrated over a reasonable period of time”
