‘Mass gathering’ planned in two Bristol parks
Police are attempting to contact the organisers of an event planned in two Bristol parks by a group encouraging people to “be a part of the largest mass gathering since the lockdown”.
The events on Saturday are being promoted by UK Freedom of Movement, a far-right anti-vaxxing group who believe “in freedom, equality and the sovereignty, structural integrity and democracy of the UK”.
Bristol24/7 is choosing to make readers aware of the events so that they can exercise caution and avoid Brandon Hill and Victoria Park if they choose to do so. Neighbourhood police officers will be patrolling both parks throughout the weekend.
is needed now More than ever
Flyers for similar ‘mass gatherings’ circulating on social media also advertise similar events in cities across the UK including Cardiff, Plymouth and Nottingham.
Victoria Park Action Group chair, Andrew Brown, said: “I want to make abundantly clear this has nothing to do with the group and that I, personally, condemn this and would discourage people from participating in such an event.”
Bristol City Council have also tweeted strongly discouraging people from attending the events.
A spokesperson said: “We remind everyone that outdoor activity is strictly limited to spending time with your household or, as of today, with one other person and is subject to social distancing rules. You cannot gather with more than one person you don’t live.
“We strongly discourage people from attending any Bristol park or outdoor space for a mass gathering. More stringent enforcement measures for non-compliance with the new rules have also come into effect and fines have increased for the small minority who break the law.”
