Mauretania back on the market

By Rhiannon Thomas  Thursday Nov 10, 2016

The Mauretania could once again become one of Bristol’s grandest bars and restaurants, with the historic property at the foot of Park Street now available to let.

Famously, some of the furnishings from the luxury transatlantic liner Mauretania – in service with Cunard from 1907 to 1934 – were installed when the building was owned by Avery’s.

The bar remains paneled with mahogany which came from the ship’s first class lounge.

The exterior red sign installed in 1938 was Bristol’s first ever external moving neon sign and remains a well-known Park Street landmark on the exterior of the bar that was most recently used as the VIP area at Java nightclub.

Kevin Conibear from Fleurets, who is handling the marketing of the property, said: “The décor of the Mauretania is unique, offering elegant accommodation with many original features including a domed ceiling and mahogany panelled walls.

“It is located in a high footfall area on Park Street, linking with the city centre and offers an incoming operator to benefit from extensive accommodation at ground floor level plus the added benefit of a late 4am premises licence.”
