Bradshaw backed by majority of councillors

By Mairead Finlay  Friday Aug 28, 2015

Labour mayoral hopeful Mark Bradshaw has secured the backing of more than half of Bristol’s Labour councillors.

But the former transport boss of the city is only one ahead of selection rival Marvin Rees in a race that’s proving difficult to call.

Bradshaw’s team released a list (see below) showing the Bedminster councillor has support from 16 out of 30 of his colleagues on the council.

However, the numbers are almost irrelevant as the ballot is open to all Labour members, not just councillors, until it closes at 12pm on September 10, with the winner revealed shortly after.

Bradshaw also has the support of former MPs Dawn Primarolo and Roger Berry. Rees, who previously lost to George Fergusion in the 2012 mayoral elections, has gained support from major unions. These include the CWU, GMB and USDAW.

Helen Holland, Labour Group Leader
